New Sled for Duramax Hyamp long torch; making skeleton cutting safer and faster

Cutting the skeleton (the scrap plate remaining after removing parts) after automated cutting can be a major contributor to labor costs in a busy shop. Cutting up skeletons with oxy-acetylene or other flammable gases can be dangerous because of the risk of explosion from hazardous gas cylinders that can be difficult to handle. Operators who cut the skeleton with hand torches often stand or kneel on the table, which can lead to fatigue and repetitive motion injuries because the process is slow and awkward for the operator. Switching to the Powermax system and Duramax Hyamp Long Torch reduces the risk of explosion, cuts the material faster, and allows the operator to stand in a comfortable, relaxed position. The new Hypertherm skeleton sled (428809) makes skeleton cutting even easier by allowing the long torch to glide smoothly over the surface of the skeleton.

For shops that currently cut up skeletons with a mechanized plasma torch, switching to the Powermax and long torch can lower operating costs by reducing mechanized system ramp down errors when cutting off the edge of the plate. If mechanized consumable life is poor because of cutting off the edge, switching to the Powermax and long torch can quickly pay for itself by extending the life of mechanized system consumables. This change also increases the shop’s capacity by allowing the operator to start cutting the next nest on the mechanized table while cutting the skeleton on the side.

The Duramax Hyamp Long Torch is compatible with the Powermax45 XP, Powermax65, Powermax85, Powermax105, and Powermax125. The 428809 skeleton sled is available from our online store here.
